Computer Refurbishing
WildTech is the Washington DC Region’s leading computer refurbishing organization, receiving thousands of donated computers from generous corporations and government agencies, refurbishing them, and providing them to needy individuals, non-profits and schools. In most cases, it is the only way these recipients can possibly get a free or super-low-cost computer. WildTech is one of the founders of the the non-profit computer refurbishing industry (see our history), providing tens of thousands of refurbished to need individuals and organizations across the United States and in Africa. In 2020 alone we provided over 1500 computers to people in need.

Device Access
Access to a computer is not a luxury, it is a necessity. 90% of people look for jobs on the Internet and 97% of students require a computer to complete their homework. During the COVID-19 pandemic, access to technology is essential for distance learning and social distancing. Those demographics who cannot afford a computer at home are also showing much higher COVID and other medical fatality rates.
The Real Stats
In Washington DC, 25% of households lack access to broadband internet, and 17% do not have a computer at home. This “Digital Divide” is the worst in Wards 5, 7 and 8, the same Wards with the largest African American populations and the highest death rates from COVID-19. It cuts the deepest in the homeless community in every ward, where few own a computer, have internet, or know how to use one. This divide is vastly greater in the African nations we serve, where less than 1% of people own computers and many people have never seen one.

Our Solution

Since 1995, the WTA has been Bridging the Digital Divide in major USA cities and seven African nations, so we know a lot about the problem. That is why in January of 2020 we launched a bold new initiative end the Digital Divide by 2030 – and we need your help!
